What FTP Software Do You Suggest?

Note: If you are a FrontPage user, you should not use an FTP program for uploading your regular web pages, but rather upload such data with FrontPage itself. For more info on this matter, please refer to our FrontPage Support page. Of course, you may wish to obtain an FTP program in order to work on files outside of the frontpage directory structure, such as your .domains file, which controls mail forwarding.

Windows Users:

We recommend using an excellent program called WS_FTP, or another program called CuteFTP.

You can download WS_FTP:

You can download CuteFTP at:

Mac Users:

If you are a Mac user, we suggest that you try Fetch, which may be downloaded for free at:

What Can My File Names Be?

Insiteweb uses servers which run a variation of Unix, but usually BSDI. All Unix machines are case sensitive. This means that if you upload your files with upper case letters in them, then your HTML's references must also match the case. The easiest way would be to keep everything in lower case. Spaces and special control characters are generally not a good idea.

How Do I Create Non-Virtual Website?

To create a non-virtual web site, you have to create a new directory (or folder to MAC users) and then upload the main loading page (index.htm). You can setup as many non-virtual web sites as you wish. Insiteweb only charges additional fees if you go over the allotted disk space limit that is established in your pricing plan.

When Will My Domain Be Active?

Once the InterNIC announces that your domain name has been registered (or transferred, if applicable), it usually takes about 2-5 days before it is active. All internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect new site locations. This is called propagation.

Where Do I Monitor Web Usage Statistics?

Your log files contain the statistics for your site's traffic. These files are in your /logs directory. The raw files might be large and difficult to understand. We suggest using a log analysis program to present these statistics in a more graphic format. We have provided a file called usage.html which has some of your sites stats compiled in list format.

We have instituted a new system for the management of log files.  Please click here for a description of the new system.
