Retrieving email with Outlook Express
and similar to Outlook Office edition

Our Microsoft Outlook Express tutorial shows how to setup Outlook Express to retrieve email from your Insiteweb accounts. To configure Outlook Express, follow the simple instructions below. Some menu items and box names may vary slightly but the basic process is the same in any email software. You need to establish two things:
1. A POP account - this is where you get your mail from.
2. A SMTP account this a a mail sever used to send mail.
For each account you will have a "user name", "password" and "mail sever address".

Also note that you do not need to create a email "account" for every email address you want. you can create forwards. For example, if you need to get email for support@ and sales@ and info@ and your-name@ , you can do all that with one email account and 3 forwards. it works like this, you would create 1 email account with a user name and password, then you create email forwards that forward mail to that 1 account. This way you only need to log in to 1 account, and w3hen mail is sent to the other account it forwards to the main account.

Get started: (Total time: 10 minutes - Experience level: beginner)
Open Outlook Express and choose "Tools" from the menu bar then click "Accounts".

Click on the "Mail" tab then click the "Add" button and then on "Mail". The Internet Connection Wizard will walk you through the setup process. Just do the best you can we will fix any errors on the next steps.

The Setup Wizard:
First, it will ask for a display name. Normally we use your email address.

Next, the wizard asks for your email address that you want people to reply to. Normally we use your email address again.

POP :
Next you are asked for your server information. Your incoming mail server is called a POP and its name is "mail."  your domain name (example;   mail.yourwebsite.com  ) - don't forget the dot after mail.

SMTP:
We recommend using the SMTP server of your Intertnet Service Provider (ISP) for sending mail not your website, in fact some ISP's require you to send mail through their SMTP server.
Enter the SMTP server you use for your dial up or cable modem ISP email. if you don't know it's name you can find your ISP SMTP account name by looking in Outlook express under tools > account > select the account > properties > server tab.

Next is your account name on our system, this will be your email address.
bob@yourwebsite.com

Next, it will ask for an account name that Outlook Express will use to refer to this particular account, you can choose whatever you want but we use the email address again, bob@yourwebsite.com

Finish any other prompts and when done go to Outlook express.

Click "Tools" then click "Accounts" as shown below.

This time you will click the "Mail Tab" then highlight your new account by clicking on it once.
Then click the "Properties" button as shown below.

Now make sure your information is entered as shown below.
Using your own information of course, not ours.

Next click the servers tab and make sure your information is entered as shown below.
Using your own information of course not ours.
In the "out going SMTP server:" use your dial up SMTP server, it's probably closer to you, made just for mail sending, and won't put any load on your website if you send large files. Your ISP is your "Internet Service Provider" such as AOL, MSN, or Sprint and you should have an email address with them.  The SMTP field is where you will enter your ISP smtp.server  information. If you don't have that information call your ISP or check their website for email setup.
next if you are using your ISP as your SMTP server check "My server requires authentication"

Next - ONLY if you are using your ISP as your SMTP server click "My server requires authentication
Next - ONLY if you are using your ISP as your SMTP server click  the "Settings" Button as shown ABOVE.
When you click the "Settings" button you will get a prompt similar to the below.
Next - enter your ISP user name and password and make sure to check "Remember Password"
Next - click "OK" all the way out, you are done. See "Receiving Mail" below.

Receiving mail:

Now to retrieve your mail, in the Outlook Express window, choose "Tools" from the menu bar.
Then select "Send and Receive" then select your new account and click it as shown below.
